Construction Projects

Why We Don’t Have Many Project Photos (Let’s Be Honest)
We’ve been building homes in Joyo for over 80 years – quietly, humbly, and almost entirely through word of mouth. But in recent years, we’ve been hearing more and more locals say:
“I’ve lived in Joyo, Kyoto my whole life and never knew this kind of builder was right here!”
That stings a little. So we finally decided to do something about it and built this website. But as you’ve probably noticed… there aren’t many photos here yet.
You might be thinking:
“Why are there no pictures?”
“Isn’t it normal to take nice finished photos after a project?”
You’re absolutely right. But here’s the thing – we never did that. Why? Simple. We never had a website to put them on.
(And now, here comes the embarrassing part)
Once we start working on your home, you’ll figure this out pretty quickly anyway, so we might as well come clean:
Our craftsmen do have smartphones. But they don’t use LINE. They don’t take selfies. Honestly, they use their phones like glorified alarm clocks – or worse, like rotary phones. You know, the kind your grandma had, with the dial you spin and the satisfying click-click-click.
So when we say, “Hey, take some nice, sharp, well-composed photos of the finished work!”
Hell yeah, that’s not happening.
And on the rare occasion they do snap a photo, it’s usually blurry, crooked, and taken with zero regard for lighting or angles. It’s not a “portfolio shot” – it’s a “this’ll do” record for internal use. That’s why we have almost no publishable photos from past projects. (Sad but true.)
For decades, we simply didn’t need to take photos. So we never built the habit, or the mindset of capturing our work for the world to see.
That’s the honest reason.
The few photos we do have? A handful taken by a professional photographer years ago, and some recent ones snapped by our Always Ninja Okami.
But that’s changing.
From now on, we’ll be documenting our work – slowly but surely. Not for “likes,” not for show, but to share the truth of what we build.
No filters. No fluff. Just honest craftsmanship.
